alcohol. According to Yrjö, Bill was an alcoholic by the time he was 18. He
was a private in the army during WWII, but did not see action. He was
probably a Pfc.
His common-law wife was Marie. He knew her before the war, and they had a
relationship that lasted perhaps 15 years. She lived for a time with Edith
and Mac.
Bill was a nice and pleasant person at least when sober, but was never able
to overcome his alcoholism. He spent his post-war years in and out of VA
hospitals for detoxificatition. He sometimes stayed for a while with Yrjö and
Hilja after discharge from the VA. He probably is buried at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan.
