Otto Adolfsson
We know very
little of Otto Adolfsson other than birth and
marriage dates and the names of his wife and children. We have now traced
back Otto Adolfsson’s and Wilhelmina Göransdotter’s ancestors into the early 1700s. We will be
adding family trees to show that sometime later. The use of
surnames was being switched from the patronym system
to the current system in the late 1800s and early 1900s. His son Otto (Ottosson) Laaksonen adopted the
Laaksonen surname, but we don’t know if Otto Adolfsson did it first. So what has
happened to Otto’s and Wilhelmina’s descendents? Well, there are plenty of
representatives of the professions of medicine and dentistry, law,
engineering, accounting and the like, a hero (and a casualty) from WWII, and
many other successful hard-working individuals. No Laaksonen
has been convicted of a serious crime, but there has been some bootlegging
(in the past), and even a moll for the Purple Gang. The Laaksonen
family has also had its problems with alcoholism. So in addition to
all the great genealogical fun, treasures and skeletons of the Laaksonen family past, this site provides a lot of family
tidbits that would otherwise be lost in the course of time. Not to mention
that our ancestors and their Finnish heritage are a part of our own identity.
Understanding them and their heritage helps us understand ourselves a little
bit better.
